Many of you are under tremendous pressure as your semester comes to an end. Trying to get all your papers, tests and projects finished and getting summer plans finalized can cause pressure. There is a term NASA used to use, Max Q. Approximately one minute after launch, a space shuttle must withstand a condition of extreme force called “maximum dynamic pressure”—Max Q for short. This is the most critical point in flight from an aerodynamics perspective. It’s when the most stress is placed on the vehicle. It happens just after the shuttle goes supersonic, at an altitude of 25,000 to 35,000 feet (5 to 7 miles up) INTENSE! Sounds like finals week!
This pressure is a reality in many of your lives. Many of us live in a constant state of maximum Dynamic pressure. The world we live is instant, its pace unyielding, and the pressures constantly rising. People have different ways of dealing with pressure. Many will enjoy social gatherings were “cool-aid” is served in large quantities…others use forms of escapism like movies or books. However many of us don’t know how to deal with stress and pressure. Learning to deal with pressure is an important aspect that all of us have to figure out. My favorite thing to do is to take time away from the routine. I step out of the daily routine and loose m self in nature. I love to hike and camp. I enjoy getting into the woods or on the trail and immerse myself in Gods creation. How do you deal with MAX Q?
